FAQs

Do you do landscaping?

Yes, but not in the traditional sense.

We think of ourselves as garden stewards. Our work combines ecological garden design, education, and hands-on care to create beautiful, sustainable landscapes that support local wildlife and natural ecosystems.

Unlike conventional landscaping companies, we don’t mow lawns, perform routine shrub shearing, or apply seasonal mulch as a standard service. Instead, we focus on creating and maintaining thriving gardens using native plants and sustainable practices that benefit both people and the environment.

What makes Joyful Roots Co. different from a traditional landscaper?

We approach landscapes as living ecosystems rather than solely decorative outdoor spaces.

Our work combines ecological garden design, education, and stewardship to create gardens that are beautiful, functional, and supportive of local wildlife. Rather than focusing on routine maintenance like mowing, hedge trimming, or seasonal mulch installation, we prioritize native plants, habitat creation, soil health, and long-term sustainability.

The goal is not simply to maintain a landscape, but to help it thrive.

Do you provide tree services?

We do not offer large tree removal or traditional arborist services.

However, we may remove small trees or shrubs as part of a garden renovation and often incorporate small native trees into our designs to provide habitat, food, and shelter for birds and other wildlife.

Do you only work with native plants?

Native plants are at the heart of what we do, but we’re not strictly native-only.

If you have favorite plants that are non-invasive and fit well within the landscape, we’re happy to incorporate them. Our goal is to create gardens that balance ecological value, beauty, and the unique character of your space.

Can you help bring more birds to my yard?

Absolutely.

Many birds rely on native plants for food, shelter, and nesting habitat. Through thoughtful plant selection, layered garden design, and habitat-focused practices, we can help transform your yard into a more welcoming space for birds, pollinators, and other beneficial wildlife.
